Why I became a Real Estate Agent
Why I became a Realtor
I had experience in sales with a MLM company for 15 years, so I KNEW how to sell. When I purchased my second home in 2004, I remember my Realtor saying "you should become a Realtor.." I told her she was out of her mind. I saw the long hours she put in. I have always had an all or nothing mentality which is not always a good thing. But I knew with a small child, a successful business with a very large client base and the never ending tasks that come with being a wife and mother that I most likely couldn't give it my all plus I had zero desire to work 20 hour days and take time away from my family. Still It seemed like everywhere I turned, someone was suggesting that I should pursue Real Estate. The seed had most definitely been planted.
Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect it to. In 2010 a lot of life changes occurred. The main change came in the form of an impending divorce. I had no idea how I was going to make it, but I was determined that I most certainly would. I considered several opportunities but the words of my former Realtor kept running through my head. It was time to make a decision. Lipstick or houses? Houses won. Mind you this was still in the midst of the market crashing in 2007. There was an abundance of foreclosures, bank owned homes, Hud homes and short sales. Many thought I was crazy. I was told I would fail. I was told that "super smart" people had taken test many times and couldn't pass. But I didn't let that deter me. When I set my mind to something, I make it happen. That's just who I am. I took that test, passed the first time and the rest is history.
Please know that my determination to provide for my daughter was not the ONLY motivation in starting a career in Real Estate. Helping others is my passion. I cannot begin to tell you how satisfying it is to problem solve and make a seemingly impossible situation work. Home ownership is the ultimate American dream and knowing that I have assisted so many people in achieving that dream is truly a great feeling.
I have been told by countless women that I have inspired them. Not even necessarily to get involved in Real Estate but to leave bad situations. Pursue a dream, change their situation, do something for THEM. That is mind blowing to me. Me? Really? But its a common theme so I have to believe there is some truth to it. Inspiring others inspires me. Knowing that maybe just maybe me..just working hard on a daily basis has somehow helped someone see their own potential? I can't explain how good that feels.
While inspiring others, helping others and making ends meet are my top three reasons there are many other reasons as well. I'm a people person. I love meeting and building relationships with new people every day. Though the hours can be LONG..there is flexibility. I needed that as a single mom. I never missed a theater production, swim meet, or dance. And of course, the income potential. Sure we all need to pay our bills but the sky is truly the limit in Real Estate. Im honestly living a life that I would have never even imagined living 10 years ago. If you're willing to work hard you can most definitely meet or exceed your income goals.
Since getting my license on that day in September over 10 years ago I have been a partner in two brokerages, and helped open and build Indianapolis Homes Realty Group, Brownsburg Homes Realty, and Greenwood Homes Realty. I've watched our partners succeed and grow and do amazing things. I have guided countless familes, young couples, single moms, widowers, and first time home buyers through what can be a stressful process. (Yes its stressful..I don't mince words. My job is to make the process LESS stressful) The pride I feel in what I have been a part of is so rewarding. And you better believe I'm not done yet.
